Lisa and John Evans are long friends and supporters of the arts.  They requested a custom painting from me in April, 2021.  They wanted a large format painting, similar to the painting to the left which I did back in January and sold out as soon as I posted it.

"As long as it's big and an original and signed by you, that's what we want."   And me (or my ego?) said - "OF COURSE.   I know exactly what you want! It shall be done."

So - here we are a mere 48 hours later, my paintbrushes fired up and speeding along when I thought, hmmm.  Better check that ego and make sure we're heading in the right direction.
The picture to the right is the first pass.  Figurately we were heading in the right direction. Looks pretty similar to the picture above, eh?  Except it was large paper (18" x 24") but the flowers were too small.  Even I could see that when I stepped back.
Literally, we were heading in the wrong direction.   The Evans' were picturing a vertical painting - this one was horizontal.
Process wise, we are back to the drawing board.
Below are almost step-by-step photos of the process.  The final spaces in the gallery are reserved for pictures of the framed finished art.  Lisa and John opted to float mount their painting to show off the hand torn edges.
and now for a little seriousness!  check out my Instagram Post when I first talk about this painting
I'll say it myself.  I have a beautiful garden.  It's taken twenty years to build and grow, and as all good gardeners know, it changes constantly as I split and propagate plants from here to there.  Sometimes the birds and bees bring little treats in on their feeties which end up seeding themselves and growing.  Sometimes plants that I didn't expect to see again after the previous year show up in just the right spaces.  It's freaking magical.  Hmmm ... kinda like watercolors!

Below check out the flowers which found their way into The Evans' painting.
